UXMAL & PROGRESSO

There was a brief moment without rain when we first arrived, then the rain came pouring down. The weather was warm so we just went for it. It actually was kind of fun walking around in the rain, but we didn't get to spend as much time as we would have liked.
I wore my visor to keep the rain away from my face, but finally that didn't even help. The kids had so much fun running in the rain. They even stood under a waterfall coming from the roof of one of the ruins.

The two common names for this pyramid are: Pyramid of the Magician and The Temple of the Dwarf.
Collin and Sydney had more fun checking out all the frogs, butterflies and other critters.
After we got through walking the grounds it stopped raining, so we ran back to our cars and grabbed our camera's and ventured out to the main areas to get a few pictures.

This is up on the hill near the Governor's Palace. Sydney and Collin are still enamored by all the little creatures that were everywhere.
The Governors Palace. This ruin is dated between 900 & 1000 AD. It is divided into 3 sections by very transferal vaults.

The facade of the Palace has some of the most beautiful examples of Mayan architectural sculptures.

This was the Mayans water supply
This is a picture of what it must have looked like
After taking a few pictures we needed to get the mud off our legs before getting into our cars, so we used the fountain at the entrance of the ruins. (shame on us)
Our next stop was the Progresso Beach Town, my brother Paul talked about this town in his journal
The streets were flooded, you can see Jay & Natalies car going through the water.
The beach itself was deserted, it looked like no one wanted to venture out on this day, neither did we
It was too bad that we couldn't get out and go exploring
It was hard to tell if we would have enjoyed this beach with the way the weather was, but we have heard about how great it is so we wanted to see Progresso for ourselves
This Pier is the longest Pier in the world, 4 miles long, you can barely see the Pier along the horizon
They even had a light house
