MONDAY, NOVEMBER 15th

WA'ALE'ALE & WAIMEA CANYON
We drove over to the west shore and went up the canyon towards Pu'u o Kila and Kalalau.
We wanted to get this picture of the wind surfer.

The Kalalau Museum showed pictures of their canyon and Kalalua Valley which is the largest valley in Na Pali

Again our friendly little chickens are everywhere I loved these beautiful birds.....anyone know the name of them?Clouds are always moving in and out of the valley, it was a real treat to see. The only way to reach this valley on the Island is by boat.

On our way back down we stopped to get some pictures of Kauai's mini Grand Canyon

Side note: We also drove through the city of Waimea, this is where the great explorer, Captain James Cook first set foot in Hawaii on January 19, 1778.

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 14th

KAUAI
Our flight over the Island

KOLOA AND PO'IPU
We had time before registering into the hotel so we took a ride out to the south east end of Kauai. Jay used to work and live in this area.

We drove towards Koloa and Po'ipu when we drove through this isle of trees. This was at the end so the beautiful vines entwined with the trees doesn't show up in this picture, it was very impressive.

The Hyatt is where Jay worked for three years.

An Islander told us that when Hurricane Iniki came through it released all the domestic chickens and they could not round them back up. The Island is now over run by chickens and roosters. They are protected by the government so if a person wanted to make dinner out of one of these little creatures they would have to be on this persons property before they could give it the ax.

John had already gone to the Lobby once before when we first arrived on the Island so when he took me through a side door (it did say Lobby on the door) and down a hallway to the Lobby, I was a little surprised and unimpressed with the entrance, we also got some funny looks from the employees. As I turned around I realized that we had gone through some kind of service door. If he would have gone a little farther he would have come to the steps leading down to a gorgeous Lobby. But his excuse was his back, he still was leaning 90 degrees forward and could only see the floor, as he was trying to find the Lobby he was told to take the first left after the escalators so he took the first door to the left that he could find. The swimming pool was in front of the bay. Those four column areas were the hot tubs. The pool had an island in the middle of it.

We had fun exploring part of Kauai and getting set up in our beautiful hotel rooms. We each had our own bathroom........that's what I call luxury!

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 13th

HANAUMA BAY, ISLAND EXPLORING,

BILLOWS AIR FORCE CAMPSITES

This is where John went snorkeling years ago. He wanted to take me there to enjoy the beach, it was awesome. The bay floor is actually the crater of an ancient volcano that flooded when the exterior wall collapsed and the ocean rushed in. The live coral and tropical fish were beautiful.

We got a little sun bathing in too.
Our first encounter of Hawaii's most endangered speices.....NOT.....The chickens!

HALONA BLOWHOLE

Grandma and Grandpa wanted us to make sure we checked out the Blowhole, so here we are.

We watched some people down in the cove near the blowhole,the waves were towering over their heads, we decided to stay up on the lookout. Didn't get the greatest picture, but it was also a little smaller than some blowholes we have seen.

Billows have a beautiful camp ground.

On our way back we stopped to take some pictures of these beautiful trees. They are like a canopies shading the ground. They were John's favorite tree. The Island had these and many other gorgeous trees.

DOLE FACTORY

Johns parents wanted us to make sure we went inland to see the pineapple farms and check out the Dole Pineapple factory. Here is a picture of one of the farm fields.

As we were traveling back to the hotel the sun was shining through the clouds, it was an awesome site, I took a quick picture before it disappeared.

We didn't quite make it back to Waikiki beach to take a picture of the sunset, but as we were driving along I took a picture as John was still driving by a Pier close by the hotel. I'm getting pretty good at taking pictures when John doesn't want to stop.

OUR LAST NIGHT AT HALE KOA, IT WAS A WONDERFUL STAY.
